The 12th APEODS XII in conjunction with 13th PIT XIII

Healthy workers are very important for sustainable social and economic development on a global, national, and local level. According to World Health Organization (WHO), occupational health is a multidisciplinary activity with several aims including protection and promotion of the health of the workers by preventing and controlling occupational diseases and accidents and by eliminating occupational factors and conditions hazardous to health and safety at work.

Since large surface areas of the skin are exposed directly to the environment, skin is an organ particularly vulnerable to occupationally induced disease. Statistics show that nearly half of all occupational illnesses occur in the skin. The constant evolution of new industrial chemicals and methods of manufacture continue to bring new skin hazards and disease into the workplace.

Occupational dermatoses are defined as any pathological conditions of the skin for which job exposure can be shown to be a major direct or contributory factor. They are a cause of much morbidity and suffering in the working population, and these skin diseases contribute significantly to decreased productivity and sickness absence in industry.

To further discuss about environmental and occupational dermatoses we will hold international conference in conjunction with national annual scientific meeting with theme The Role of Dermatology in Environmental and Occupational Health. This international conference is organized jointly by the Asia-Pacific Environmental and Occupational Dermatology Symposium (APEODS) and Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology/ Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Kulit dan Kelamin Indonesia (PERDOSKI). The aim of this meeting is to exchange and disseminate of the latest scientific findings in environmental and occupational dermatology in Asia-Pacific Region including Indonesia.
